Larger bait and jigs don’t match the size they’re feeding on, and smaller jigs are generally too light to cast easily which leaves only a few options for guys. We’ve had a lot of small bait in the water the past few years and when the tuna, yellowtail and dorado are feeding on them it is hard to get a bite. Another added benefit is being able to fish heavier leaders while still being able to cast well, which opens up the possibility of catching bigger bluefin on the same jigs. There’s nothing more frustrating than seeing a school of fish boiling on the surface and not touching a single bait or lure which has been common this year with the bluefin and dorado. We think the cost is well worth it considering these lures perform better and give you a much better chance of getting bit when the predators are feeding on small anchovies or smelt. The only downside is the higher raw material cost and the difficulty of manufacturing with tungsten since it has the highest melting point out of all metals. Tungsten is heavier for the equivalent size compared to lead so it makes a lot of sense to make jigs out of it. The Major Craft TG jigs are a new addition to out market since the US is only starting to slowly see tungsten being used in lures while it has already become a big deal in Japan with many companies jumping on board. NEW MAJOR CRAFT TUNGSTEN JIG LIVE BAIT COLORS The rest of the sizes follow the same general increments. With the lack of standard sizing it is hard to put the hook size into perspective, the 2/0 size in the Gamakatsu is about the same size as a #1 Owner Mutu, 2/0 Mustad, 1/0 Eagle Claw and 1/0 QuickRig circle hook. These hooks are available in 2/0 – 6/0 sizes as well as in pocket and pro packs. They have a black nickel finish which is a great standard for live bait hooks, durable and resistant to corrosion. These rings are much stronger and more consistent giving you peace of mind that the ring won’t be a failure point like we have seen on some other hooks. The Mutu’s aren’t available in smaller ringed sizes without dropping down the wire gauge to a Hybrid.Īnother great feature of these hooks is the solid stamped ring as opposed to a welded wire ring. This alone isn’t that exciting, but given the sizes are smaller than the comparable Owner you can expect the 2/0 to be about the size of a #1 making these hooks amazing for fishing smaller or weaker bait for bigger fish without compromising on strength. These hooks fall between the standard Nautilus and the Super, putting them just above the Owner Mutu’s as far as strength and wire gauge. The newer ringed versions of the Nautilus HD hooks are a great purchase when using live bait and targeting bigger fish, especially tuna. When you’re done for the day, simply wash down the reel without worrying about wetting the electronics because they are fully sealed. Using the Tanacom 800, anglers can choose to fight fish with the Power Lever and Aluminum Round Knob or let the 12-volt power variable-speed assist do the heavy hauling. To that end, you’ll find an easy-to-read LED dot screen and sealed electronics package with selectable languages to prompt you through power assist settings and procedures including automatic stop and jigging features. It’s so fast, powerful, smooth, and saltwater tough that I can even see it pulling double-duty with swordfish, especially considering the outstanding line capacity. All the above changes are significant but big game, canyon and offshore fans will also love the Tanacom 800’s ease of operation. Combine that with the rigid frame and side-plates, plus repositioned bearings that see less water exposure, and this reel is ready to rock and roll. This new engineering design allows the same dependable motor we’ve had such great success with to generate even more power, speed and efficiency. The Tanacom 800, however, has the motor and new gearing hidden inside the spool itself – and that positioning really makes a difference in this reel’s outstanding performance. Previous Tanacom reels had the motor on the front which was sufficient. Kite-fishing fans will also appreciate the over-sized line guide aperture which is big enough to let swivels and large knots pass through, so go ahead and crank that rig right up to your rod tip. Still, the biggest improvement must be the new motor placement and gearing system. Saltwater-sealed, it now stands at a trophy-turning 50 pounds. It also has a 30 percent faster retrieval rate and 20 percent more power with 22lbs of max winding power. The brand new Tanacom 800 is born with an astounding 660 yards of 80-pound-test Daiwa J-Braid – that’s 220 yards more than the Tanacom 750. The Tanacom family has grown even bigger. With the all new Tanacom 1200 it was time to introduce a smaller size.
